We are interested in many social phenomena but we find that technologic mediation of dyadic relationships — and in particular, couples — are recurring themes in our projects. Being a couple, being part of a couple, having deeply entwined lives frames individual’s experience, motivates wants and needs, and should be a driver of the design of interactive systems.
We have engaged in projects studying couples arguing; staying connected using audio, video and computing; co-constructing their “coupleness” through joint diary development; sharing music; and the synchrony of embodied action.
